About Pilates
One of the things that makes Pilates so great is that the movements and exercises you perform give you strength and flexibility, but do not add any serious amount of bulk to your frame. Pilates is not about building muscle, it is about working with your body and not against it. You need to be able to take what you have been given and make that work for you before attempting anything else, which is the philosophy Pilates was founded on..
As you learn more about Pilates you will find that it is designed for each person's unique body. Pilates will align your bones through a series of movements which will cause less strain on your body than a typical exercise routine.
Pilates appeals to a number of people. It doesn't matter what type of person you are or what level of training your body is currently used to. Pilates can help you improve your body's natural functions as well as help boost confidence and mental wellness.
The most wonderful thing you will discover about Pilates is that you don't have to suffer through the movements to feel better.
You are training your body with intelligent design and therefore you will not need to work twice as hard, as you may have to do with other workout programs.
Pilates was set up to create balance within your body. This will help you realign your bones and can also help improve your posture. Another positive feature is the lean muscles that you will form thanks to your workouts.
Pilates is excellent exercise for everyone no matter their shape or size. In fact, many videos and exercise clubs have created specific Pilates classes for people with disabilities, arthritis, general strength or weight loss issues, and even pregnant or birthing mothers.
About Stott Pilates
Developed by former professional dancer Moira Merrithew, with input from sports medicine professionals,
Stott Pilates is a contemporary, anatomically-based approach to Joseph Pilates' original exercise method. Its exercises safely deliver optimal strength, flexibility and endurance, without adding bulk.
This stress-relieving method can be performed on a mat or using dedicated Stott Pilates equipment.
Unlike the original series of exercises, Stott Pilates incorporates modern exercise principles, including contemporary thinking about spinal rehabilitation and performance enhancement. For example, unlike the original approach, which promotes a flat back, Stott Pilates exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. They also place more emphasis on scapular stabilization. As well, there are more preparatory exercises and modifications to make the method safer and more effective.

Cindy's Pilates will offer Reformers, Cadillacs, chairs, barrels, balls, bands, rings and mat classes. Private and group classes are available at the studio and you can sign up online or by phone.
Prenatal classes are offered throughout the week and Mommy/Daddy and me classes will be held on the weekends. There is no membership required for the studio. Walk-ins are welcome, but to ensure a place in the Reformer class, we encourage you to register at least 24 hours in advance.
